you capture : germany

Preface to this post: These photo's were taken while watching the world cup quarter final where Germany beat Argentina 4-0.  The post was written just before I watched the semi-final lastnight.  I was convinced that Germany would win.  But it was not to be.  Last night, Germany lost the semi to Spain.  This morning the city is moarning.  Literally.  Ah, well.  Better luck next time, huh?

German's aren't known for their nationalism.  Something about a war 60 years ago tends to make them shy of coming forward on the German rheoteric.  The one exception is for the soccer.
Then your allowed to drape yourself in your flag and sing your anthem loudly and proudly.
You're allowed to nervously stare at the big screen as your team plays.  You can cheer, 'ooh' and 'ahh' at appropriate moments, and occasionally even swear.
Then - when your team starts attacking...you can stand and watch...waiting expectantly
and hug your mates when you score!

So sorry you lost yesterday.. Although I'm a bit glad we don't have to play against you in the final... But I love the soccer spirit German has. That's much better then we have.

Love the photos, what a shame they lost!

Oh man, that Germany-Argentina game was SO.GOOD. I couldn't believe they'd scored 2.5 minutes in! I was barely waking up and waddling downstairs in my pj's to watch. But yesterday's game was just sad. I really would have loved to see Germany play (and defeat!) the Netherlands, but...it's not to be.

Great photos though! I would have loved to be there in the crowd! (Actually, I just miss Berlin. Period.)

Wonderful photos! I especially like the one where all the men are shielding their eyes from the sun :]
My husband's family is German, so they've been quite upset about the whole thing. It's a shame.

Germany has behaved long enough- I say be patriotic! Besides, it was an Austrian that really messed it up for you guys. Great captures! I've never really understood soccer, but I love watching how into it the fans get!
