a creative flop

Not so long ago I posted about how I was planning on turning some simple t-shirts and dresses into beautiful crocheted masterpieces.  I crocheted with fury and if truth be told I'm actually quite pleased with how the crochet turned out.  I then bought what I thought was a cool shift-dress from H&M - it's only problem (or so I thought) was it being a little on the transparent side.  No problem, a bucket of nautical blue dye later fixed that issue.  All that was left was so sew my cute little granny-squares onto the hem of the dress and I was done.  As with most things the whole process took a little longer than I anticipated, but I finished it off last week and quickly tried it on.
Let's just say that the finished dress didn't exactly live up to the masterpiece that my mind envisaged.  I was imagining cute summer shift-dress with unbelievably adorable granny-square hem.  What I ended up with was a blue linen sack with an adorable granny-square hem.  But who wants to wear a sack, even if it does have a cute hem?  Not I.  If I had a sewing machine and knew how to sew I could perhaps fix it with a dart at the back to give it some shape.  But I don't have a sewing machine and even if I did I'm not sure if I'd know how to dart.  Gaagh!  The granny-squares are coming off, the dress is being relegated to nighttime attire and I'm back to the drawing board on how to successfully turn my t-shirts into crocheted loveliness.

Nice post. Always worth experimenting!
It seemed like a good idea, I can envisage what you were thinking... Still, it'll make a comfy nightdress :)

Oh, what a pity it looks so cute! Did you try it with a belt?

That's so cute! And it's all a process of learning when it comes to creative experiments! But now you have something super cute & comfy to sleep in. I say that's a win win situation.

I agree with Allana, it could work with a belt! I love your crochet work, it is divine! Keep going, all of this is good practice! I love a bit of slouchy indoor attire - I have one all-in-one that I have kept since I was 19 from H&M when it was called just 'Hennes' - it's so comfy! xx

haha, hilarious! Yes, a belt perhaps... It does look very cute, but no one would expect you to wear a sack, not even a cute one! I look forward to seeing what happens next...

I think I told you that I was in the process of crocheting embellishments for a shirt too. . . well, I can sympathize with you now, because mine was even more of a flop than yours! It's harder than it sounds. :]

I agree with everyone! Try it with a cute thin white or yellow belt! :)

Sweetie..You did well..I could not do this:)
Really!I have two left hands when it comes to stuff like that. I think the belt idea is great! The girls are right:)
Muah and see you soon:)

Maybe you could use the granny squares as a belt? As others commented, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"

ohmydear--I certainly have had my share of flops lately too! Although--I wish that I had your mad crocheting skills! ;-)

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you. My home-made chai is actually not-so-much home-made, just made at home;-) I cheat by using the boxed chai mix from Target.....

I use 1/3 of the concentrate, and 2/3 cup milk--it must be whole milk--that is the secret. I add in 1/4 tsp of sugar ( although, I hear you are technically supposed to use honey with chai. bahumbug on the technicality people! ;-)...... )

warm and drink. yum!

hope you have a happy, happy day;-)

I, for one, am rather impressed by the adorable granny square hem. When I was a kid, my mom made several disastrous attempts to teach me crochet. All I ever mastered, however, was the simple chain stitch. Our house was draped in mile-long "chains" of crochet. :-)

Hmm . . . definitely back to the drawing board. I might try it on the bottom of something denim - or maybe, as the hem of a cute blousy summer shirt. Good luck!

Someone said to me once 'Why wear things to bed that you don't think look good on you. You should wear things to bed that make you feel good about how you look!'. I liked the sentiment although I don't always follow the advice myself...
