Sleep

I'm a good sleeper. Really good. So good in fact that I'm probably a little too good. On a bad night it takes me five minutes to get to sleep. On a good night, I'm asleep almost before my head hits the pillow. I've even been known to fall asleep mid-conversation, at the dinner table and once, just once, while standing up listening to a midnight mass. I was the girl at uni who always fell asleep in class. When the sleep-bug hits I'm a goner.  It's safe to say I have very little understanding of the difficulties some people have in getting to sleep.
But I am learning, and quickly. Emilia is sleep resistant.  Catch her at the right time and it takes half an hour for her to calmly and quietly drift off to sleep.  And this is after she's been fed, changed, swaddled, given her sleep toy, has her dummy and has her Mama or Papa sitting quietly by her side.
I kind of feel sorry for the kid. Kind of. A little bit. Although there are times when I'm reminded of that book by Adam Mansbach.  You can listen to Samuel L. Jackson narrating it here. It'll make you laugh, particularly if you're just a little bit sleep deprived.

lol, that really made me laugh, I can imagine it does get to that point... I think I'm going to show this to my Mum :)

In fact I think I was one of those children that didn't sleep - my sister on the other hand can sleep anywhere just as quickly as you.

My daughter who turned 30 today never slept seriously and she is still a night owl. I like to have a little nanny nap now and then LOL but try not too or I can't sleep at night! Love the photos of seeing how she falls to sleep.

Have a great day
Always Wendy

Oh Sweetheart. I empathise. Completely. After having 3 littlies in 3.5 years, it stills pains me to read this - I'm having little PTSD -like flashbacks! Hang in there, my friend. Believe me- it will pass. I promise. J x

Wow - nothing like sleep deprivation. It's true that time will pass and you'll forget what this was like ... until then, happy zombie life!

Yes, I can relate, having had one of those and one at the opposite end of the spectrum. You are doing such a great job, though, and so good that you have such perspective on the issue... Hang in there and keep persevering, she will learn to wait for it rather than to fight it! (Rowan has...) xo

I like the way you did this post, very pretty.

Twila goes through phases...here and there she falls to sleep immediately. Often, she fights it and sometimes decides after an hour she just wont do it. Good luck!

PS- sounds like a funny story-the one of you falling asleep mid-conversation ;)
